Once upon a time, there was a girl named Tina...
A month ago, I opened my youtube channel to see, what's new there.
I subscribed a channel of one greek guy who's got very similar taste of music. I like his channel, he supplies me with many great bands I would never discover.
I believe everybody's changing and with me becoming older my taste of music quite changed.
Pfew, I'm still young (I hope), yet I switched from metal genres to rock ones and from rock to something completely different.
And this guy from Greece showed me fantastic band from Russia. They called themselves Tinavie. Maybe because of Tina, the girl, who's standing behind the mic and singing. And composing. And playing the piano.
Tinavie self-released their first album in 2010. The recording's been named Augenblick. In english "twinkling" or "eyewink". It features eleven songs and they are absolutely amazing, even if they are aranged mostly for live concerts. They sound very pleasantly and have so much tiny shiny romantic atmosphere as they seem to be more like stories than songs.
The best on Tinavie's first album is - however - the image of every song these guys (with this girl) wrote. It looks like a concept album, and very supposedly it is a concept album. I wrote "wrote" on purpose. Every song IS a story. It has its own atmosphere, tempo and rhytm. Every one of these pieces can stand alone (and they do), but they work together even better.
Of course there are some "deaf places" on the album. Some song are just too small to stand high at the Music mountains. They miss something. I don't know what, it's you who should find it out.
The very best moments (for me, of course) come to the end of the album. Last two songs, Hate and Beautiful Illusions. Beautiful Illusions was the first Tinavie's song I've heard so it's understandable I have some feelings for it. But I fell for another one more.
Hate.
It's a story.
About her.
It has wonderful line, escalating into a firework of emotions. I hate you, baby, I'll break you baby, I want to kill you, baby, but I loved you baby. Love, hate, bliss and ignorance. Pain, tears, smile... It's like if somebody finaly understood what you wanted to say - and said it instead of you.
Beautiful Illusions is another story. There is a wall in Prague. Wall covered in (spray)paintings. It's telling a story of one woman born in 1928. She lived through WW2, became a pop singer, during the communism era in Czechoslovakia she was forbidden. She married, had two children, one died one day under the wheels of a truck; the other one emigrated in the 80's, her husband died in 2004 and she's alone now. She's eighty and the only thing she has left are her memories.
The story on the wall is absolutely amazing giving me goosebumps everytime I see it.
I have the same feeling while listening to Beautiful Illusions.
If you can imagine Paris in 1930's or 1940's, there's an Epiloque as the fourth song. It brings somehow different emotions than the other songs on the record and I personally like it very much.
In november 2011 Tinavie released their second album. It's called Hidden Places and features 13 new songs. It's... It is much different from its forerunner, yet Tinavie remains the same in creating beautiful romantic songs with apparent storyline behind the music itself. Album was recorded at the studio and you can almost see the difference in the sound. It's more colorful sound with stronger drive. With Hidden Places Tinave became to fast for downtempo, they definitely crossed the genres in music and created new subspace in the music universe.
Tinavie didn't make something entirely new. With Hidden Places they however upgraded their own style into a new fashion style of making modern popular music. I must admit that the first album was somehow more touching. I believe it's because I did listen it more times. And maybe it's because Augenblick was concepted as a recording for live perfomances, so you can feel more emotions with your mind not so opened. While on the second record you really should open your mind and start to think about the stories told by this russian band.
There are many memorable songs on the album Hidden Places. It all starts with song called Changing. The lyrics say it all. The music also. It's a great opener, listener can feel the juicy ideas of composing and writing. Breathe Out brings more wind-instruments (brasses), or if you like another way of bringing them into play. Faster, stronger, carrying the idea of the song / lyrics.
Of course you will find your own favourite songs on Hidden Places.
There's one I really like.
Brave.
Once I wrote somewhere this is a piece that attacked my personal list of the best songs ever.
There's so much juice on the track, it's so powerful all alone that I can imagine it as a standalone story. It's the best track (for me) not only on this album. If there's a song that gives me strength, it's this colorful, powerful a unbelievably touching song. The rhytm, vocals and scheme of instruments create so much emotions. There's an outstanding intro and outro of this piece too, making the whole song more comprehensive than any other piece on the album.
And with Believe all the guys (and girl) from Tinavie give the listener something special. I can't describe what I think of this song with my horrible english, but I'll try to say it: It's an ordinary scheme, nothing special. Drums and the brasses aren't by no means original. For the first time of listening this band, I realized that Tina's vocal exposure isn't anything unique. But somehow they created with all the instruments and vocals a rare pop song, you will never hear in any radio station or on any music tv.
And so what's about the girl Tina?
Tina is of course the frontman of this band. Frontgirl. It's obvious she has a lot of music knowledge, she's composing (not all alone though) and writing the lyrics too and she's the person who creates Tinavie's musical image.
She's beautiful too. She sings pretty well live, she has a beatiful smile and she's absolutely cute when she's standing behind the piano with the microphone in front of her face.
I believe that without Tina, there would never be this amazing russian band.
Tinavie made a wonderful step forward. They didn't change the music at all, they can't be described by any genre though. Augenblick nor Hidden Places aren't flawless recordings determining a new way of modern pop music.
Yet I hope Tinavie will get one day attention of future musicians and inspire many new bands all over the world.
